News: New Trump Executive Order Targets Refugees

(additional references added 28 Jan. 2017)

Today, Pres. Trump signed an Executive Order entitled "Protecting the Nation from Foreign Terrorist Entry into the United States," which among other things puts the refugee resettlement program on hold for four months, caps total refugee admission numbers at 50,000, halts Syrian refugee admissions until further notice, and places a 90-day visa ban on nationals from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.

Today is also International Holocaust Remembrance Day. The president issued a short statement that ends with "Together, we will make love and tolerance prevalent throughout the world." And yet, as the ImmigrationProf blog noted, the president chose this day to "refus[e] to come to the aid of those fleeing persecution."

Here is a joint statement from UNHCR and IOM.
